Continuing its annual participation, Tesmet (Technologies for Sustainable Metallurgy is a research group operating in the Laboratory of Metallurgy of the National Technical University of Athens) took part in the 43rd International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) Conference, which was held in Nanning, China, from 26 to 31 October 2025.
ICSOBA has long been regarded as one of the leading global gatherings focused on upstream aluminium activities — from bauxite to liquid metals — bringing together industry professionals, technology suppliers, researchers, and consultants from around the world to exchange ideas and share advances in sustainability, decarbonisation, and the circular economy.
During the conference, Tesmet researchers delivered four presentations in the alumina and bauxite residue sessions, reflecting the group’s extensive and long-standing expertise in aluminium industry processes.
Danai Marinos, a member of the HAlMan consortium team, presented her work on “Alumina Recovery from Sodium Aluminate Solutions via Carbonation” and co-authored a study on “High-Purity Alumina Production Prospects from Alternative Raw Materials.”
All presentations attracted strong interest from the audience and sparked engaging discussions.
Notably, Danai Marinos was among the recipients of the ICSOBA Student Travel Award, a distinction that recognised the quality and impact of their scientific contributions.
Their participation — alongside that of Professor Balomenos — highlighted Tesmet’s active role in advancing innovation within the global aluminium research community and its continued commitment to fostering a more sustainable, circular, and low-carbon metallurgical industry.
