Technologies for Sustainable Metallurgy Group
Part of the National Technical University of Athens, NTUA
Technologies for Sustainable Metallurgy is a research group operating in the Laboratory of Metallurgy of the National Technical University of Athens, under the supervision of Prof. Dimitrios Panias.
Through our solid engineering infrastructure, our dedicated and experienced research team, our strong bonds with the European raw materials ecosystem and the accumulated experience of more than 20 years in diverse metallurgical and materials engineering projects, we offer integrated research and consultation solutions tailored to your processes and needs.
We have proven expertise in the design and development of individual metallurgical processes and/or integrated process flowsheets, laboratory and pilot scale research in pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical and electrometallurgical processes, thermodynamic and molecular modelling for new process and/or material development. We further support research initiatives and provide consultation and support in innovative metallurgical projects with the aid of our fully functional chemical and molecular analysis facilities for materials research.
Partner’s role in HAlMan
- Production of alumina from secondary sources.
- Thermodynamic modelling of the leaching and precipitation processes and the precipitation process will also be modelled by CFD.
- Recovery of CRMs and Ca from by-products (the resulting grey mud residue from the leaching step of the alumina production).
- Production of commercial Al-Mn alloys from the manganese generated in the HAlMan project.
- Physicochemical analysis of primary and secondary raw materials or any materials produced from the optimization and pilot campaigns.
